If I Built a School...
Reading Krissy Venosdale's and listening to Sugata Mitra stories, were very motivational. Krissy's blog caught my attention the most. It expressed creativity to the fullest . I think creativity is a very important aspect in every classroom across the world. Creativity stands out the most in elementary students , at this age they are getting involved and learning about how things happen.
What I Want My Students to Know
I want my students to know that everyone is their own person. They will know that their opinion matters to me and their peers. Also, I want them to know that they are not alone. As a Elementary teacher I'd like to create a positive bond with my students. I want them to feel comfortable with coming to me about anything and that im always there to listen. The quote , "There is no such thing as a dumb question", will always be expressed in my classroom. My students will know that I am here to help them progress to their greatest abilities.
My Students Will Be Able To
I want my students to be able to learn and use their skills in everyday life, rather than memorizing it for a moment. Not only will they learn educational facts , I want them to endure the value of respecting one another. Also, I want them to make their own decisions and not be influenced by others.
My Teaching Methods
My primary way of teaching my students is using hands on activities. Instead of mainly using textbooks, my students will be able to get a hands on experience on what they are learning. I think this method will give the students a better understanding on the material. Every week, we will have a " carpet discussion ". These discussions will be about any topic the students agree on. For example, we will simply discuss whats happening in the community or things being done wrong on campus. This discussion method will help with students social skills and give the teacher observations.
Tools That Will Be Used In The Classroom
As said before, hands on activities will be a big thing in my classroom. Textbooks will be used , but they wont be our main focus. Ipads and computers , along with arts and crafts will be our major tools during activities.
The Role Of My Students
My students and I will rotate roles. Sometimes the students will be the teacher and I'll be the student. I guess you could describe us all as " colleagues ". Everyone will be required to state an opinion during class discussions and participate in every activity.
Hi Chastity! I'm Brooklyn and I'm also taking EDM 310 this semester! I agree with many of your points. I think it is very important that our students know that what they think is important to someone. I feel like a lot of times students become just another face in the crowd to their teachers. I think it is so very important to make sure our students know that someone cares! I also love your idea of "carpet time" and having the students discuss things that are going on in the community. It's a great way to promote community involvement in our students.
ReplyDeleteI just want to point out that you did have a few capitalization and grammar errors, but overall I very much enjoyed your post! Good luck on the rest of the semester.
Where are your summaries of what Venosdale and Mitra had to say? "Motivational" is not enough!
